Summary

A possible promonotory fort underlying Dunstanburgh Castle. Very little now survives other than a broad earthen bank which is cut by the castle wall and overlain by ridge and furrow suggesting it was an earlier feature (Oswald et. al. 2006). It is speculated the 'Burg' element of the name might have derived from an earlier earthwork. Minimal investigations, undated.
