Located on the SE end of Clare Island off the W coast of Co. Mayo, this coastal promontory is marked as 'Doon Cloak' on the first edition OS six-inch map (1839). Projecting S from the Island, it forms a long raised platform (0.12ha) lying parallel to the shore, with steep slope dropping into a low narrow neck on the N. Westropp suggests that 'the farther edge was fenced probably by a dry-stone wall, only a very low mound with a few foundation-blocks is extant' (1914, 326); such a feature appears on satellite imagery, but it seems likely that this and what appears to be no more than a bank above the neck are the result of an agricultural enclosure. There are certainly no recorded defences on the landward side of the headland and no features on the top of the promontory.
