This possible coastal promontory is situated S of Kid Island on the N coast of Co. Mayo, c. 2.9km W of Carrowteige. It is an irregular headland projecting W and connected to the mainland by a narrow neck at Illanmareen Cove. It is not depicted on any edition of the OS six-inch maps. No details of any defences are available, and the only feature visible on satellite imagery is a cleft some 5m broad in the bogland surface at the root of the promontory on the landward side of the neck; it is not clear whether this is natural or artificial (SH).
