The remains of a small fortification occupy the summit of the rocky knoll that rises abruptly from the centre of the otherwise low-lying island of Eilean Mor. Girt with cliffs up to 9m in height on all sides except the E, the defences comprise a wall drawn round the margin of the E half of the summit, but now reduced to a band of rubble no more than 2m in thickness. David Christison believed there was also an outer wall at the foot of the knoll on the E and S (Christison 1889, 383, fig 9), but RCAHMS investigators could find no trace of it (RCAHMS 1975, 72, no.139); possibly it was no more than tumbled stone from above. The entrance was probably on the S where a steep path mounts the flank of the knoll. The interior, which is featureless, measures about 44m from NE to SW by 25m transversely (0.08ha).
