Summary

The site of this fort, which has been revealed by cropmarks, occupies a low ridge rising from the ENE bank of the Carnochy Burn S of Meckphen. An elongated oval on plan, the cropmarks only reveal the NE half of the defences, which comprise three concentric ditches forming a belt some 15m deep. At the time that the photographs were taken in 1986, the rest of the circuit was under grass, and since then the whole fort has been planted with trees. Nevertheless, the interior measures about 95m in length from NW to SE by a maximum of 35m transversely (0.25ha), and allowing for the presence of an inner rampart probably extended to about 0.2ha. The ditches are between 2m and 3m in breadth and are pierced by an entrance on the SE.
