Summary

Large, prominent, partial contour hillfort occupying the summit and N flank of Dinas hill overlooking the Llyn Clewedog reservoir (formerly the valley of the Afon Clywedog, where it was sited within a loop of the river). Unusual site considering it's large size amongst much smaller Mid Wales sites, Steep to very steep surrounding slopes. Measures c. 500m NE-SW by 160m, with internal area c. 12ha. The bank and ditch discontinuous and use is made of the very steep slopes on SE. Detached bank and ditch forming a main approach to the N, but entrance not defined. Spurgeon (1972) suggests that it may be unfinished. Improved upland pasture. On 1st Ed. OS map (1886). Minimal investigations, undated.
